The history of the Fabergé egg is indeed an interesting one. The tradition began in 1885 when Czar Alexander III decided to give his wife an Easter Egg. Legend has it that the gift was also to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their betrothal, but I digress. Peter Carl Fabergé was asked by the Czar to craft the precious gift – an egg made from gold with opaque white enamel shell which opened to reveal a matte yellow gold yolk. The yolk in turn opened to reveal a multi-colored gold hen which also opened and contained a diamond replica of the Imperial Crown with a small, suspended, ruby pendant. The Czar’s wife was elated with the gift and in turn Czar Alexander III appointed Fabergé a “goldsmith by special appointment to the Imperial Crown” and commissioned yet another egg. And thus the tradition began.

This stunning Fabergé Pine Cone egg is delicately crafted with overlapping disks enameled blue over a guilloche ground with well over 1,000 Austrian crystals. Housed inside the egg is a miniature elephant that holds a cobalt blue egg pendant.  Although a replica of the workmanship of Peter Carl Fabergé, this Fabergé egg is an authorized Fabergé design with a certificate of authenticity from a “workmaster” with Fabergé.
